New York Dining recommendation
I'm looking for a Mew York restaurant with a decent view at night that isn't a rip off (trying to budget a little as the trip is costing me a fortune). Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?
I guess Ideally looking at £50 a head plus drinks.

thanks

Marriott Hotel Restaurant on Times Square has a revolving tower at the top, which is well worth it.

There are 2 x restaurants in there, if you want ala carte then go to the Top one, if you want everyday stuff, go to one of the next floor down.

Took the good lady there and she was more than happy with that.

Also try Star Dust diner for lunch, it is a restaurant where out of work actors perform when serving lunch, but cheesy but actually good fun

Smith & Wollensky for steak
Ai Fiore for Italian.

Went to le Bernardin in December, seafood place. Didn't really rate it although it gets brilliant reviews. Full of pretentious types, and very pricey.

He did a TV programme here called 'no reservations'. He seems to have a great reputation with other chefs, plus he eats Michelin food but also the stuff you buy by the side of the road. Bourdain loves the Asian stuff that costs nothing.

How these TV chefs manage all this food without turning into buses is beyond me.

The Modern at MOMA. Go to the Museum and then wander in for lunch. Great food - great room. If you're looking for great food - at a lower price try Cafe Habana in Nolita. For music the Red Lion on Bleeker Street (and also good for English Premiership football)

You won't eat at The Modern for £50 a head though

There are some outstanding restaurants there, but there are also plenty that flatter to deceive. Once went to an extremely expensive French restaurant and had what is best described as boiled fish floating in a broth with flower petals. Beware the emperor's new clothes.

Forget the swanky restaurants, the best food in NYC is on the street corner..........

Some of the of hot dog carts are fantastic, also get some pretty decent Mexican as well, and all for a few bucks.

Someone previously mentioned the marriott as a good value location for a meal and a view.

If you want a bar with a view try "The James Hotel" at sunset (so long as you are travelling in the spring / summer months.

Need to get there pretty early but its a good view from downtown and slightly different from all the mid town locations that get packed with tourists.
